Planting garlic in autumn: timing, preparation of soil

Garlic is an indispensable product on our table. For sure, everyone knows that he is actively used in folk medicine, for example, to treat the same cold or flu. In addition, garlic is used to improve the palatability of a variety of dishes, without it, it does not cost to harvest vegetables for the winter. There is nothing surprising in the fact that garlic is loved to grow summer residents. This process is not complicated, so even a beginner can start to master it. The most popular winter garlic, the one that is planted in the fall. I suggest you understand what the landing of garlic is in autumn. What should I look for?

Determine the time of planting garlic

The first question that excites those who plant garlic for the first time, at what time to do it. An ideal condition is the presence of a temperature of 12-15 ° C outside the window. Approximately this is the end of September, the beginning of October. True, in some areas such a temperature can be established somewhat earlier, or, conversely, later. Time can be calculated and so: from planting garlic to the first frost should take about a month and a half. During this time, garlic can form a root system, which will allow it to winter and winter shoots. Do not be afraid if planting garlic in autumn will lead to its growth. It only says that he has taken root, and therefore, the winter for him will be fearless.

After what vegetables to plant winter garlic?

It should be noted that garlic should not often be planted in the same place. It is advisable to choose new places every year, and to plant them only in 3-4 years. Garlic grows well in those areas where before it grew bean, pumpkin, early cabbage, early green crops. At the same time, it is necessary to free the beds from them a few weeks earlier than the planting of garlic in the winter. Garlic grows poorly on the growing areas of potatoes, tomatoes and representatives of the bulb family.

Planting garlic in autumn: how to do everything right?

Winter garlic grows best on sandy loamy soils. The bed, which will be planted with garlic, should be dug for a couple of weeks before planting. Depth of digging is 25 cm. It is obligatory to apply humus (namely humus, not fresh manure) at the rate of 5-6 kg per square meter. On the same area you will need to add 30 g of superphosphates and 20 g of potassium salt.

Planted are healthy chives, which should be separated from the head only before planting. If this is done before, they will dry up, losing the ability to grow. If the health of the denticles is doubtful, because not all of them can be thoroughly studied for the presence of any diseases, before planting they can be soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate pink.

On the bed should be made rows, the distance between which is 12-15 cm. Just sticking denticles into the ground is not worth it, since this will complicate the formation of the root system and growth. The denticles are planted with a sharp end up, this allows the bulb to form correctly in the future. Planting denticles should be at a shallow depth, but not too high to the surface, otherwise garlic can freeze. Already planted garlic can be covered with a layer (5 cm) of sawdust or peat, and also lay out brushwood, which will hold snow on the beds.

That's all, landing of garlic in autumn is complete. Do not do anything else. It remains only to wait until spring to remove brushwood and a layer of mulch, providing garlic with necessary care. And it consists in timely weeding, watering during active growth and fertilizing. The latter is carried out in the early spring by means of urea (1 bucket of water per bucket of water). In the following two more fertilizing with urea or bird droppings should be done in the summer.
