Nikolai Orlov - friend and ally of the sovereign

Nikolai Orlov is a prince and a Russian diplomat. His family belongs to an ancient family. Was an ambassador in Brussels, Berlin, Paris. Nikolai Alekseevich was the only and fervently loved son of a man who became the founder of the Orlovs.

In 1843 he was awarded the honor of becoming the page of the royal court. In the summer of 1845, with distinction, he passed an officer's examination at the Corps of Pages. After testing, he was appointed to the Life Guards.

On June 5, 1846, he became an aide-de-camp of Nicholas I. A little later he became a lieutenant and began to accompany Konstantin Nikolayevich on trips abroad.

In 1849 he took part in the war with Hungary. In the Hungarian company received a distinction and was promoted to captain.

After this, when he became commander-in-chief, he went to Warsaw. There he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir. The next two years he again began to accompany the Emperor on trips to his homeland and abroad.

In the winter of 1851, he was sent to serve in the department of the General Staff. A few months later he began to serve in the office of the War Ministry. In 1855 he received the rank of colonel. He was sent to fight against the Turks on the Danube. Under his command, the assault of the Arab-Tabia fort was carried out. There he became a cripple - lost his eyes and received nine wounds. The Sovereign awarded him the Order of St. George of the 4th degree and presented a golden saber. To treat injuries Nikolai went to Italy, he spent a year and a half there. After the treatment, he was promoted to Major-General and appointed to the Emperor's retinue. The prince died in France on March 17, 1885.

Personal life of the prince

In his youth, Nikolai Orlov was in love with Pushkin's daughter - Natalia Alexandrovna. He really wanted to take her as his wife, but my father absolutely did not want to hear about it. Instead, her father matched Olga Panina for him, but the couple did not get along well.
