Molecular adhesive: mechanism of action, features, method of application

A wide application in the home and at individual enterprises has received molecular glue. In the market of installation materials it is presented in the form of a rod of dark or milk color with a diameter of 10-11 mm and a length of up to 30 cm.

Some varieties are presented in compact tubes. His popularity is due to the ability to firmly bond various materials, as well as reusability.

Mechanism of action

The main component of the molecular adhesive is cyanoacrylate - a high-molecular compound, cyanoacrylic acid ester. Its content in the composition is about 90%. The rest is reserved for plasticizers, stabilizers, retarders, thickeners, the number of which determines the specificity of the product.

Its high bonding capacity cyanoacrylate adhesive is due to anionic polymerization, which occurs under the action of weak alkalis - water. When the composition is applied to the surfaces to be glued, it begins to actively absorb moisture from the environment, while simultaneously solidifying.

The setting time varies from a minute to a few seconds. That's why you can not leave the compound outdoors - it will instantly deteriorate.

Mode of application

Use molecular adhesive can be used for bonding plastic, glass, ceramics, rubber, plastic and other materials. Depending on its type, the application technology will be different. To connect surfaces with a dark plastic rod, you must:

  1. Clean and degrease the parts to be glued.
  2. Melt a small mass of the substance in a metal container. It is convenient to use a soldering iron or a lighter.
  3. Melt the mixture with the melted mixture.
  4. Compress the elements before the glue cools.

As soon as the composition cools down, the processed object can be used. Although the molecular adhesive guarantees high strength, it is better to protect the bonded surfaces from the action of bending loads and low temperatures.

Features of the use of the composition in tubes

The process of bonding parts with liquid cyanoacrylate adhesive has only some differences from the technology of using conventional formulations. The parts to be cleaned must be cleaned and degreased. Then apply the mixture, but only on one of the surfaces, strongly press.

After solidification, leave under the press for a while, after which the glued parts are ready for use. Folk craftsmen to accelerate the solidification of thick layers of glue sprinkle it with baking soda - an alkaline agent. At the same time, the setting speed is accelerated several times.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of adhesives is a high rate of solidification - the parts seize with each other in a few seconds, after which they can be removed from the press. But before the given strength comes, it should take up to 24 hours.

Persistence is the second advantage that molecular adhesive has. Neither organic nor synthetic solvents are capable of destroying the molecular structure of the cured composition. It also gives it dielectric properties - the mixture is an excellent insulator.

Essential shortcomings of the composition do not have. Some users complain about the high fragility of the glued parts. Other disadvantages were also noted:

  1. Low strength with impact and mechanical impact.
  2. Toxicity: work with the substance can only be in a ventilated room.
  3. High degree of adhesion to human skin: you must observe some caution when applying.

Another disadvantage is the cost. So, the price for popular Klebstoff glue varies within 3-7 thousand rubles for 6 kg of product. You can recoup costs by gluing a large number of parts or when processing large areas.
