Menisci of the knee joint: injuries and treatment

Menisci of the knee joint are cartilages that are responsible for the variety of movements of the human foot. In fact, it is a kind of natural shock absorber, which prevents friction of bones and their rapid wear. Most often meniscuses are damaged as a result of sharp bending or extension of the leg. The risk of injury in this case increases, if at the same time there is a turn of the thigh with a fixed shin.

Symptoms of damage

To damage the meniscus of the knee joint is quite simple. This injury is very common. According to statistics, meniscus damage is diagnosed in 70% of patients who came to the doctor with complaints of knee pain. With the timely access to the doctor, there are usually no problems in curing such trauma. The main symptom of the damage is pain, which is aggravated by extension of the leg, as well as inflammation and puffiness in the area of the joint. Of course, such manifestations can be signs of bone fracture. Therefore, when diagnosing a doctor, he must prescribe an X-ray examination.

Damaged menisci of the knee joint cause a restriction of movement, both active and passive. The leg of the person lying on the couch is usually slightly bent. A similar condition is called blockade of the joint. Very often people who have received such trauma do not go to the doctor. In this case, after a while (approximately after two days), the pain passes. There comes an imaginary recovery. However, any careless move in the future may lead to the resumption of the blockade.

Than self-treatment is dangerous

Damaged menisci of the knee joint must be treated by contacting a doctor. Older injuries can lead to such unpleasant consequences as inflammation of the joint membrane, as well as to constant pains that increase during walking, descent from the stairs. In the case of the appearance of the "articular mouse" (separation of a piece of the meniscus and bone proliferation), surgical intervention will be required. Therefore, when pain occurs after a sharp extension of the leg with a simultaneous rotation, you should not delay to go to the emergency department.

Treatment of the knee joint meniscus

Previously, the doctor appoints a puncture with the introduction of novocaine. After this, the restrained meniscus refreshes. In this case, the doctor produces movements that are opposite to those that led to trauma. Therefore, it is very important to inform the doctor as much as possible about the circumstances of the damage. After repositioning, a langette is applied to the knee. In the case of the appearance of the "articular mouse", the inner part of the joint is examined beforehand by means of endoscopic technique. When diagnosing a separation, an operation is prescribed. The meniscus is then removed. In the treatment of such injuries, special gymnastic exercises must be prescribed.

The application of folk methods

Of course, it is impossible to cure such a trauma independently. However, there are folk remedies that can partially relieve inflammation of the knee joint meniscus and stop pain. The most common way in this case is a honey pack. Of course, before taking any independent action to relieve the pain, you should visit a traumatologist and get appropriate advice. Honey is quite effective. In any case, it will not do any harm. To prepare the compress take one piece of honey and medical alcohol. The components are placed in a small container and put on a water bath. The heated mixture is applied to the knee and wrapped with a woolen scarf. The course of treatment is a month (2 hours in the morning and in the evening).

Damage to the meniscus - the injuries are serious enough, so it should not be taken lightly.
