Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi takes a special place among them. During his long career, he shot more than 85 films, being considered a true master of his profession.

With love from Poland

The future director, whose fame later thundered all over the world, was born in Warsaw in 1939. His name, which is not sound for Soviet viewers, will one day be heard in our country. Few people know that this man was not going to conquer the cinema at all. Moreover, in the years of his youth they did not think of such a thing. Like many of his peers, Krzysztof Zanussi enrolled in Warsaw, and after Cracow University, where he studied physics and philosophy. As they say, any experience is useful, therefore reasonings about a life he will enclose in the future works, nevertheless having a direct relation to cinema art.

Unconditional success

Career filmmaker began with the production of amateur films. At first Krzysztof did this for himself and his friends. And then he got so involved, that he thought: why not turn it into a full-time occupation? Some of his works were awarded prizes, which further strengthened the further desire to create for the people. Leaving philosophy, Zanussi enters the Lodz Film School, which ends in 1966. For the first time, the director Krzysztof Zanussi is born. And at once - success. The thesis "Death of a Provincial" shines in the program of the Venice Film Festival in 1967.

To consolidate Krzysztof's skills is taken with the help of television and documentary projects. Full-length debut picture was the drama "Crystal Structure" in 1969. The next project is again a drama. With the release of "Family Life", Zanussi is spoken of as a promising director, fearlessly exploring the mores and problems of the Polish intelligentsia of that time. Cold and in some ways a calculating rationalist, he is not afraid to raise the most complex and delicate problems of society and the country.

The first half of the 70's is characterized by the beginning of a long and productive way of the director. Films of Krzysztof Zanussi are released periodically, and not less than two paintings per year. He does not shy away from taking on television and full-length films, he does not forget about short films, in which he tries especially to reveal the idea in the allotted time. Many of his paintings will be included in the program of various film festivals (in San Remo, Poland, West Germany, France, Locarno, Chicago, Cannes). Among them are his most famous hits: "Hypothesis", "Women's House", "Behind the Wall", "Role", "Roads in the Night", "Paradigm", "Night Watch", "Protective Colors", "Quarterly Balance" .

Almost all of his paintings Zanussi himself wrote the script. Similarly, we can say about the production, which he also did. But the acting of Krzysztof was not very attractive - he played in only two films. By the way, one of them, a mini-series "Pilgrimage to the Eternal City," was shot by Vladimir Khotinenko. The main roles were performed by Nikita Mikhalkov, Vladimir Mashkov, Yuri Solomin.

Krzysztof Zanussi published a collection of scripts, books on the topic of reflection on contemporary cinema and personal life. In 1980 he was invited to the post of head of the creative association "Thor", a little earlier - vice chairman of the Union of Cinematographers at home, in Poland. In this rank, Krzysztof Zanussi stayed for nine years.

The name of the talented filmmaker, who is often compared with Woody Allen, is familiar in every corner of the world. Zanussi worked in several countries, where he staged theater and opera performances. In 2008, he not only became a guest of Russia, but also staged the play "Duet" on the stage of the theater "Old House" in Novosibirsk. During his career, Zanussi has received numerous international and national awards many times.
