How is the Complex object formed and why is it used in English?

Complex object in English is nothing more than a combination of the above grammatical concepts, in other words, it is a complex addition that is formed with the help of an infinitive. How the Complex object is formed in English

This syntactic turnaround includes a nominal part that can be expressed by a noun or pronoun, which is supplied to the objective case - for example, me, him, them, her, us, and so on, and a verb in the form of an infinitive. That is, schematically this construction can be represented thus:

A pronoun in the objective case / a noun + an infinitive

For example:

  • I want her to answer me as soon as possible. - I want her to answer me as soon as possible.
  • Anna thought that her sister was at school. - Anna thought her sister to be at school.
  • He felt that someone had hit him. - He felt somebody punched him.
  • Dr. Thompson told me to take these pills for a cold. - Doctor Thompson told me to take this anti-cold medicine.

These were examples of using the Complex object, its construction is italicized. In Russian it is usually translated by means of subordinate clauses with "what" or "that" unions. In oral speech, it is used quite rarely, but in writing, its use is much more common.

Complex object in English: use cases

This design is most often used with visual or sensory verbs, such as see, hear, notice, feel, feel. Also remember that after such verbs the particle -to is not put, for example:

  • I did not notice somebody exit the cinema. - I did not notice that anyone left the cinema.
  • I have never seen him doing any sport activities. "I've never seen him play sports."

Remember also, Complex object in English is used with verbs expressing mental activity, such as consider, advise and so on, for example:

Also remember that this design is used with the verbs of preference for something, for example, with want, want, like, and so on. For example:

  • She would like her daughter to be a model. - She would like her daughter to become a model.
  • Anna and my mom do not want us to go. - Anna and my mother do not want us to go to Turkey.

Also the English Complex object should always be used if you want to compose a sentence with the verbs let, make, force, have (in the value of "force"). Moreover, get, and also make and have in this construction are used without the particle "to". For example:

  • What do I make this job, I really wonder? - I really wonder what exactly made him choose this job?
  • I hope our team will force them to sign these contracts.

And, as an exception, the Complex object is used with the verbs to announce, to declare, to pronounce. Consider as an example:

  • They declare Maria Sharapova to be a winner in that tennis tournament. - They declared Maria Sharapova the winner of that tennis competition.
