Color and light in the design of the room

Interior design is a complex concept. One can not single out one aspect and abandon the others. Color, light, furniture, decor elements - there are no trifles here. But you should start with the "skeleton" of the interior - light.

What is the light

The first and most important type of lighting is natural light . Of course, it is the most favorable for vision, for work and for health in general. Unfortunately, the realities of the modern world are such that many have to work in the dark.

By the way, before the invention of glass, the holes in the huts of the Slavs were tightened by bullish bubbles, which reduced the already small percentage of light entering the room. In the dark, people used the beams, and to whom they allowed the wealth - candles.

Decorative lighting increases the intensity of lighting

But we have not rushed home for a long time, when the sun sets, but with pleasure we use the good of civilization - artificial light . The assortment of artificial lighting devices today is greater than ever.

More light can be warm and cold . There is a special scale of light (color) temperature (measured in Kelvin):

  • 2700-3500 K - warm light (morning or evening sun),
  • 4000-5000 K - white light (daytime sun),
  • 6500 K and above - cold white light.
It is important: warm light is traditionally considered to be the most favorable for a person. Cold is mainly used for lighting workplaces , warehouses, offices, where the quality of work depends on the correctly illuminated workplace. Daylight experts generally do not recommend using at home, you run the risk of knocking your biorhythms off: the body, perceiving this light as daylight, will think that it's day in the street, although it's high time you went to sleep.

What are the types of lighting

Ceiling lamps - an important detail in the interior

It's not enough just to buy a light bulb and hang it under the ceiling, the light from it still needs to be properly directed. So, lighting can be done:

  • Point lighting is the type of lighting we are accustomed to: lamps, floor lamps. They give a small "bunch" of light to a certain surface, without illuminating the entire room. Remember at the same time that there are certain standards for the distance from the lamp to the illuminated surface: for a table lamp, the distance is considered to be 30-40 cm, and for a night lamp - 15-20 cm. Incidentally, the backlight also belongs to the category of spotlighting;
  • Scattered - when large spaces are illuminated. This is usually a bright lamp, and the height of their location should be at least 120 cm from the floor;
  • Reflected - the most natural kind of lighting. The light falls first on the reflector, and then dissipates throughout the room. Practically does not give shadows, in this connection it is not suitable as a working light for any painstaking work, for example, embroidery - without shadows, forms are more difficult to distinguish.

Now let's talk about color

Color is our mood, no more and no less. We choose color unconsciously, intuitively, and our psychological comfort largely depends on this choice. When creating an interior design, it is important to be guided not by a momentary desire a la "I will paint the ceiling in pink!", But with a well-weighted decision.

The room in turquoise or green tones to rest

Improperly selected colors can cause irritation, depression and even a headache - remember this.

When planning the design of the room, we advise you to consult with a specialist color expert, but for now, we offer a short guide to the main colors in the interior:

  • Warm colors. Red, orange, yellow . Symbolize activity, vitality, positive. Red, for example, has long been considered the "color of life" due to its identification with the color of blood. With the help of these colors, the room looks warmer. Good in interiors of kitchens, children's.

Pros: charge with energy, keep in tone, increase appetite and "temperature" of the room.

Cons: the excess of yellow and orange is fraught with overwork, stress, overeating, and abuse of red can even raise blood pressure. Designers do not advise using red as a base color.

  • Neutral colors. Green, brown. These are natural, natural colors - the colors of harmony. Often used as the base in the interior. They will fit into any room, especially if they are bedrooms or living rooms.

Pros: soothe, tone, refresh, help to concentrate.

Cons: they are almost not there, but it's better to beware, for example, of the excess of green in the interior (especially its screaming tones), the phrase "melancholy green" appeared clearly not from scratch.

  • Cold colors. Blue, blue, purple . Colors of calmness, intellect, recovery. Blue gives clarity of thought, carries a coolness - designers like to choose it for bedrooms. Blue and violet will be "heavier" - they should be used as accents. Very stylish look in the bathrooms.

Pros: blue and blue reduce pressure, help to restore strength, purple tones into a lyrical, romantic mood.

A survey of the population of 17 countries showed that blue is the most favorite color on earth. It is preferred by 40% of the people of the planet.

Cons: The excess of blue and violet can lead to loss of concentration, depression, despondency, and too much blue will create a feeling of cold in the room.

The next two colors can not be attributed to either warm or cold, in all color classifications they go separately:

  • White . The color of purity, the symbol of renewal. It has the property of reflecting the sun's rays, which can be used as additional illumination, especially in small rooms.

Pros : the best way to expand the space and give the room a special aura.

Cons : without dilution with other colors it will look boring.

  • Black is an elegant and mysterious color. Has the property of absorbing light and visually reducing space - remember this when planning.

Pros : many give a sense of protection. In moderation, it gives style and sophistication to the design.

Cons : with excess can occur apathy, stress. Colorologists do not recommend it as a leading color.

Living room in quiet colors

Well, how does it all combine?

First, do not double any effect. If you have yellow walls, do not need to equip the room with lamps of warm light, it is better to choose the lamps of neutral light. Conversely, if the leading color is blue, then you should not buy a lamp with a temperature of 6000-6500 K, you will psychologically "freeze".

Secondly, build your light according to the time of the year: in winter it will be better to add a little heat to the lighting, and in the summer - a little coolness.

Third, take note that natural materials (leather, wood) always look better with warm light. Metal and plastic like neutral and cold lighting.

Fourth, use imagination! Although the choice of colors and obeys certain laws, sometimes improvisation fits perfectly. And remember, the main criterion is your personal comfort.
