Calculation of interest: we use Excel
Let's say that you need to determine how much the bank deposit will grow over five years, calculate the tax on the sale of goods, or find out how much it will cost to take a loan. In any of these cases, you will have to deal with interest. The calculator is a good thing, but it can not give you visibility and recalculate the result when changing the source data, just as Excel does. In addition, calculations can always be saved in a file (it is clear that the calculator does not have such a functional).
Calculating the percentage of the total
For example, if you win 5,000 rubles in the state lottery, you must pay 15% of the income tax. How much will it be necessary to give to the state?
A | AT | FROM | D | |
1 | Amount of winnings | The value of tax in decimal terms | Formula | Description |
2 | 5000 | 0,15 | = A2 * B2 | The number 5000 is simply multiplied by 0.15 and the amount of tax to be paid is 750 (750). |
Calculation of interest for a known value and the total result
For example, if there are 29 students in the class, of which 16 are boys, then what is the percentage of boys?
A | AT | FROM | D | |
1 | Number of boys | Total number of students | Calculation of interest, formula | Description |
2 | 16 | 29 | = A2 / B2 | The ratio of 16 to 29 will determine the percentage of boys (approximately 0.5517 or 55.17%). |
Calculation of the total with a value and a percentage
For example, in a store, jeans cost 2390 rubles. This week there is a 23% discount in honor of February 23. How much will the jeans cost next week?
A | AT | FROM | D | |
1 | Selling price | 100% -23% (in decimal form) | Formula | Description |
2 | 2390 | 0.77 | = A2 / B2 | 2390 is divided by 0.77, in order to know the initial cost (3103,90 rubles). |
Calculating interest as a difference of two numbers
For example, the salary in February was 24,780 rubles, and in March - 25,500 rubles. How much interest did the revenue for this period? To solve this example, we need to apply the ABC function in addition to the basic division and subtraction operators.
A | AT | FROM | D | |
1 | Salary in February | Salary in March | Calculation of interest, formula | Description |
2 | 24780 | 25500 | = (B2-A2) / ABS (A2) | The division of the difference must be performed on the module of the first number, therefore the function ABC is needed. As a result, we get 0.02905 (or 2.91%). |
Note : The ABC function is used to determine the absolute value of a number. In other words, it returns a module, that is, an unsigned number.
Decrease or increase in the number by a specified number of percentages
A | AT | |
1 | Number | Number of percentages |
2 | 97.96 | 1.521% |
3 | Formula | Description |
4 | = A2 * (1-B2) | The number of 97.96 decreases by 1.521% (96.47). |
5 | = A2 * (1 + B2) | The number of 97.96 increases by 1.521% (99.45). |
For example, the rate of ordinary securities of the Savings Bank for the past week increased by 1.521% and amounted to 97.96 rubles per share. What was the initial cost of securities? Or, on the contrary, it is expected that the shares of Sberbank will grow in a couple of days (at least 2%). What will be their final cost then? For more convenience, you can copy the contents of the following table to a new Excel sheet. If you suddenly get an error instead of the results, try replacing commas in numbers with periods.
As you probably already could be convinced, calculation of percent in Excel - a thing very simple and convenient. No wonder this program is so popular with accountants, bankers, financiers and simply all those who often have to work with numbers.
