Aya is a cape of incredible beauty, which is a landscape state preserve in the Balaklava region. This is a real pearl of the Crimea, here you can admire the stunning scenery.
Description and history
Cape Aya in the Crimea has a Mediterranean microclimate. You can meet here beautiful plants and interesting animals, which you can also see on the pages of the Red Book.
Aya is a cape whose name is etymologically derived from the Greek word "ayios", which translates as "holy". The ancient Greeks treated the local places with special reverence, created here burials for their deceased relatives.
What is interesting here?
There is a protected area, which includes Aya himself - the cape of amazing beauty, as well as some other territories, totaling 1340 hectares.
If you climb to the top point of the cape, you can see a large funnel, in which there are boulders of different colors and tones. You can find blue, beautiful green, even red or with patterns in speckles or stripes.
Going down to the foot, you can see the numerous grottos, in which there is a beautiful azure water. Previously, this area was used by sailors, who served in the navy of the emperor of Russia. Here guns were used, which they used on ships. Traces from the nuclei are still visible. There are very few monuments of man-made origin. They are usually interested in archeologists and historians. Although it is also interesting for tourists to look at the ruins of the places of residence of ancient people who are in Ayazma, a beautiful tract.
Interesting places
There is a parking lot of primitive people, preserved from the Neolithic period. It is located on the territory of the bay of Laspi, which is called the most beautiful bay in the whole Crimea. Local landscapes deserve the most enthusiastic attention. A huge aesthetic pleasure gives Cape Aya. Rest here leaves a terrific impression.
Be sure to visit the figs. Why is the locality called this way? Because of the rock, which is extremely similar to this fruit. Local beaches and nature deserve all praise, but besides them, the place has another interesting point - a mountain called Ilyas-Kala. There are ruins of a monastery with the same name.
This area has become a protected area not so long ago, namely since 1982, but creative people who love beautiful landscapes, gathered here for a long time. It's hard to remember a person more popular than Aivazovsky, he created the work "The Storm at Cape Aya" here, in 1875.
Rare species
This territory became a famous reserve not only because of its charm, but also due to the presence of rare representatives of the animal and plant world. You can meet here a beautiful pine, a beautiful juniper, as many as 16 varieties of orchids, a needle, a buckthorn and much more. Among the animals there live the noble deer, graceful fox, wild boar, gecko, roe deer, bright leopard slips, and also other animals. In the sea there are dolphins of three species, also crabs, mussels, large mullet, rapans, ruff, sea funny dog, and scorpion. The fauna of this area is very rich, however, like the flora.
Conditions
This area deserves the most steadfast and enthusiastic attention. Here you can admire the scenery, walk, swim, look at the tract and climb mountains. One day it just will not be enough. Fortunately, here there is a settlement "Speleolog", in which you can spend the night.
It can be reached by going to the shore, rising to a height of 75 meters above sea level. In each tent can accommodate three people. At your disposal are mattresses, soft pillows and warm blankets.
You can eat in the field kitchen, sit on a bench at the table, hiding from the sun and weather under the awning. Also in a special area make a barbecue. 25 minutes walking distance is required in order to get from here to the store and replenish stocks. Also there is a beach with pebbles nearby. Of course, not very convenient because the stones are large, but if you spread the towel, it does not hurt to enjoy a wonderful pastime.
